US & Canada Excavator Parts Market 2026: Brands, Models and Parts in Highest Demand
In the twelve months to May 2026, US buyers financed 32,500 new mini excavators and Caterpillar, Kubota, Bobcat and John Deere took 81% of them. In the full-size class (8 t and above) 15,672 units were financed in 2025 and Caterpillar, John Deere and Komatsu alone held 61.6% of that market. Because the replacement-parts market follows the installed base, those three brands — and the two to three best-selling model of each — set the demand curve for excavator parts in the United States and Canada.
All figures below are from published 2025–2026 market data (Fusable EDA equipment-financing data reported by Equipment World, EquipmentWatch resale and auction reporting, Ritchie Bros. market trends and Mordor Intelligence market sizing). Sources are listed at the end. Figures are rounded and are used to describe relative demand, not to forecast any individual order.
1. How big is the US excavator market?
| Segment (United States) | New units financed | Used units financed | Year on year |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mini excavators, under 8 t | 32,500 | 12,725 | new −7.7%, used +13.1% |
| Full-size excavators, 8 t and above | 15,672 | 12,548 | new −4.1%, used +5.3% |
Two things matter for parts suppliers. First, high new-machine prices are pushing contractors into used machines and rentals — used sales grew while new sales fell. Second, the average age of a used excavator in the US rose from 7.1 to 7.7 years, and a used excavator changed hands at roughly USD 155,000–159,000 in 2025–2026. Seven to eight years is exactly the window in which undercarriage, hydraulic pumps, travel motors and seal kits get replaced.
Demand is concentrated by state as well: Texas financed the most new excavators (2,066 units) and the most used units (1,202, 9.6% of the country), followed by Florida, North Carolina and Georgia.
2. Which excavator brands sell the most in the US?
Mini excavators (under 8 t), twelve months to May 2026
| Brand | New units financed | Share |
|---|---|---|
| Caterpillar | 7,588 | 23.3% |
| Kubota | 7,270 | 22.4% |
| Bobcat | 5,572 | 17.1% |
| John Deere | 4,966 | 15.3% |
| Takeuchi | 1,054 | 3.2% |
Full-size excavators (8 t and above), calendar year 2025
| Brand | New | Share | Used | Share |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Caterpillar | 4,287 | 27.4% | 3,504 | 27.9% |
| John Deere | 2,789 | 17.8% | 2,274 | 18.1% |
| Komatsu | 2,574 | 16.4% | 1,984 | 15.8% |
| Hitachi | 945 | 6.0% | — | — |
| Kubota | 842 | 5.4% | — | — |
| Volvo CE | — | — | 829 | 6.6% |
| Case CE | — | — | 620 | 4.9% |
The concentration is the headline: the top three brands take 61.6% of new full-size sales and the top five take 73.0%. Caterpillar also dominated the auction-price rankings, taking 13 of the top 20 crawler-excavator prices between March 2025 and February 2026 — a second signal of the same installed-base weight.
3. Which excavator models carry the most parts demand?
New-model rankings tell you what will need parts in five years. Used-model rankings tell you what needs parts now — and that is the list a parts supplier should build pages around.

4. What about Canada?
Canada is a smaller but faster-growing and more crawler-heavy market: USD 2.92 billion in 2025, forecast to reach USD 4.1 billion by 2031 (5.83% CAGR). Crawler excavators are the single largest machinery type at 44.1% of the market, and mini excavators are growing at 6.62% a year as urban densification pushes contractors onto tight sites in Toronto, Vancouver and Montreal.
| Canada, 2025 | Reading |
|---|---|
| Leading brands | Caterpillar, Komatsu, John Deere (with Volvo CE and Hitachi) |
| Largest province | Ontario, 36.3% of the market; British Columbia growing fastest |
| Largest end-user | Construction and infrastructure, 57.7% of revenue |
| Demand drivers | Federal and provincial infrastructure, housing starts, critical-minerals mining, LNG and data-centre earthworks |
| Buying structure | Rental penetration at a record high — rental fleets are the largest single buyer of wear parts |
Mining adds a second, heavier layer: North America accounts for about 28.7% of the global mining-excavator market, which keeps large Komatsu PC490/PC550-class and Caterpillar 390/395-class machines in service in Alberta, British Columbia, Ontario and Quebec.
5. Which excavator parts are in highest demand?
Parts demand is a function of replacement interval multiplied by the number of machines in service. Ranked by that combined volume, the categories that matter most are filters, ground-engaging tools (bucket teeth and cutting edges), undercarriage, seals and seal kits, hydraulic pumps, travel and swing motors, engine parts and electrical components.
| Component | Typical replacement interval | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Hydraulic filters | 500–1,000 h | Highest-frequency, lowest-value repeat purchase |
| Hydraulic hoses | 1,000–2,000 h | Fails by abrasion and pressure cycling |
| Seals and seal kits | 2,000–5,000 h | Ordered with every pump, motor and cylinder rebuild |
| Bottom rollers | 2,500–4,000 h | 15–20% of undercarriage cost |
| Track chains and drive sprockets | 3,000–5,000 h | Chain is 30–35% of undercarriage cost; sprocket 8–12% |
| Hydraulic pumps | 5,000–10,000 h | Largest single-line value in most parts catalogues |
| Hydraulic cylinders | up to 10,000 h | Usually resealed, not replaced |
| Bucket teeth and cutting edges | Continuous | Consumable; sold in sets and by the hundred |
Undercarriage deserves its own line: it accounts for up to 50% of a tracked machine's total maintenance cost, and the global excavator-undercarriage parts market alone is estimated at USD 7.05 billion in 2025, rising to USD 12.24 billion by 2032 (8.18% CAGR). For a parts supplier, undercarriage and filtration are the categories that produce repeat orders, while hydraulic pumps and travel motors produce the largest single invoices.
6. Why aftermarket parts win in this market
Three structural forces push North American buyers toward aftermarket parts, and none of them is about price alone:
Old machines, thin dealer support. Dealers stock current models first. On a 320 or a PC200-8 that is ten to twenty years old, back-orders can run into weeks or months — the window aftermarket supply exists to fill.
A 30–60% price gap. Quality aftermarket parts cross-referenced to OEM numbers typically land 30–60% below OEM list price, against dealer counters that carry 20–40% markups. On a machine whose undercarriage bill can reach half of total maintenance cost, that gap decides whether a repair happens this season.
Rental fleets buy on availability. With rental penetration at record highs, the biggest buyer of wear parts is a fleet that needs the part in days, cross-referenced by OEM number, with a warranty it can file.

7. Importing excavator parts into the US and Canada in 2026
Duty treatment, not demand, is the variable that decides whether a North American order is profitable, and the two countries are not symmetric:
| Destination | Position for Chinese-origin excavator parts (2026) |
|---|---|
| United States | Machinery and parts of Chinese origin carry an effective additional duty of roughly 35–40% (base duty plus Section 301 measures). This consumes much of the aftermarket price advantage and must be priced in. |
| Canada | Canada's September 2026 counter-tariffs target US-origin goods — including earthmoving buckets and parts at 15% — not Chinese-origin parts. On current rules the relative position for Chinese-origin parts is better than in the US. |
Rates change frequently and depend on the exact classification. Excavator parts for machines of headings 8429 generally fall under HS heading 8431.49; confirm the current rate, origin rules and any Chapter 99 measures with a customs broker before quoting. Nothing here is customs or legal advice.
8. Frequently asked questions
Which excavator brand sells the most in the United States?
Caterpillar. It took 27.4% of new full-size (8 t and above) excavator units financed in the US in 2025 and 23.3% of new mini excavators in the twelve months to May 2026.
